RTL Deutschland and Constantin Film agree on strategic partnership

- Content Offensive: RTL Deutschland significantly increases investments in local content

- Acquisition of exclusive rights to all theatrical productions for free-TV and streaming as of 2022

On its way to becoming the leading entertainment brand, RTL is significantly increasing its investment in new fictional content. To this end, RTL Deutschland has agreed to a strategic partnership with Constantin Film AG, one of Germany's most important producers of TV and film content, known for outstanding productions by and with artists and creatives such as Elyas M'Barek, Milla Jovovich, Florian David Fitz, Doris Dörrie, Bora Dagtekin and many others. Both companies have agreed on a multi-year framework agreement for the cross-platform licensing of the exclusive free-TV as well as exclusive streaming rights of all theatrical productions in Germany. This covers all German and English Constantin Film productions that start shooting from 1 January 2022.

Stephan Schäfer, Co-CEO of RTL Deutschland: "We are on the move: The new strategic partnership with Constantin Film is another big step on RTL's way to becoming the leading entertainment brand. This exclusive framework agreement allows us to gain an extraordinary portfolio of artists and creatives, with their roots here with us, for us and for our audiences. This demonstrates our desire to inspire even more people with great entertainment. We look forward to strong theatrical films from Constantin Film and offer them the biggest stage in the interaction of our stations and platforms. In doing so, we are building on the existing close and fruitful creative cooperation with the team around Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben."

Martin Moszkowicz, CEO of Constantin Film: "Constantin Film's in-house productions have shaped the media landscape in Germany for decades and set the standard for exceptional and successful films. The energy of Stephan Schäfer, Henning Tewes and their team, alongside their clear vision for the future, have convinced us that RTL Deutschland is exactly the right partner for our in-house productions. We and the many artists we work with are looking forward to this collaboration."

Constantin Film and its subsidiaries have been producing high-quality film and serial entertainment for and together with RTL Deutschland for many years, most recently with the series The Allegation, the touching comedy Weil wir Champions sind with Wotan Wilke Möhring, and the anthology series Strafe based on the short stories by Ferdinand von Schirach, presented by TV Now and Vox. Now the partnership is being extended to theatrical productions. Due to Constantin Film's close and long-standing relationship with the most successful German filmmakers, viewers of RTL Deutschland’s programming can expect great films at home and on the road in the future. The agreement includes upcoming films by directors such as Doris Dörrie, Til Schweiger, David Wnendt and Paul W. Anderson, as well as films with popular German actors such as Elyas M'Barek and Florian David Fitz. Bora Dagtekin's new feature film, which is scheduled to begin shooting next year, will also be shown on RTL Deutschland’s free TV channels for the first time.
